Over the years I've done a variety of ecological survey work which I've thoroughly enjoyed:

Paid

  • Scottish Wildlife Trust Assistant to Northern Officer covering the Highlands and Islands - 11 years
  • Ornithological surveys including: Vantage Point; Point Count; Breeding Bird; Common Bird Census; Woodland Breeding Bird, Lowland
  • Breeding Bird and Moorland Breeding Bird transects; Seabird Counts; black grouse and merlin nest reconnaissance.
  • Supported the Moray Firth Partnership Manager, including providing the secretariat for the Moray Firth SAC
  • Contracts for the then Nature Conservancy Council and British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
  • Private contracts for the River Spey Hydrological Scheme and Pitgaveny Estate
  • Contracts for the RSPB: Shetland & Loch Garten
  • Work at the Fair Isle Bird Observatory 

 

Voluntary 

  • Regular practical habitat management for the RSPB at Culbin Bar and around the Cromarty Firth
  • Part of the Buglife ‘Guardians of our River’ team on the River Peffery undertaking freshwater invertebrate surveys
  • Working with Highland Council Amenities staff to manage the East Church, Cromarty graveyard to benefit nature.

  • Running my own garden and vegetable growing organically, and with a nature positive approach
