Ecology
Over the years I've done a variety of ecological survey work which I've thoroughly enjoyed:
Paid
- Scottish Wildlife Trust Assistant to Northern Officer covering the Highlands and Islands - 11 years
- Ornithological surveys including: Vantage Point; Point Count; Breeding Bird; Common Bird Census; Woodland Breeding Bird, Lowland
- Breeding Bird and Moorland Breeding Bird transects; Seabird Counts; black grouse and merlin nest reconnaissance.
- Supported the Moray Firth Partnership Manager, including providing the secretariat for the Moray Firth SAC
- Contracts for the then Nature Conservancy Council and British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
- Private contracts for the River Spey Hydrological Scheme and Pitgaveny Estate
- Contracts for the RSPB: Shetland & Loch Garten
- Work at the Fair Isle Bird Observatory
Voluntary
- Regular practical habitat management for the RSPB at Culbin Bar and around the Cromarty Firth
- Part of the Buglife ‘Guardians of our River’ team on the River Peffery undertaking freshwater invertebrate surveys
- Working with Highland Council Amenities staff to manage the East Church, Cromarty graveyard to benefit nature.
